How to Write for the ECBC Blog Site

Members and friends of ECBC are invited to write a blog article.
(See #8 below for submission information.)

1. If you are naming anyone in an article, make sure they have approved of their name being mentioned in the article before submitting it. There are only a few times people are pleasantly surprised to find their name in print.

2. Blog articles are short. No more than a few paragraphs. This is a different medium and people just aren’t interested in reading long blog articles. Sorry, pastors, sermons are just too long for a blog.

3. We are looking for articles that communicate to the public the ways in which our church is engaged with the community and the world. Also, articles that let seekers know who we are, what we do, and that they are most welcome to join us are publishable topics.

4. Unlike personal blogs, the ECBC blog will not publish opinion pieces at this time. If there comes a day when we need to stand up as a congregation for or against something in society, it will have to be agreed upon by the congregation as a whole. And, since we’re Baptists, well … let’s just leave it at that.

5. Blog articles work best when accompanied by at least one image. If you have jpeg images (saved at the low size) we’d love to see them (provided you also have permission to use them). However, one note of caution, please do not provide any images of children. We need to take simple precautions to keep everyone safe.

6. Please submit articles relating to upcoming events as far ahead of the event’s date as possible so we can give it as much time to be noticed as possible.

7. When you attend an event, wear your reporter’s hat. Make note of moving moments, snap a photo (if appropriate and armed with a camera), and send in an article.  Reflections are popular reading.

8. Submit your articles to Janine. We will first assess whether the article is appropriate for the blog (if it isn't, please don’t feel offended or hurt; this is a new venture and we’re all figuring out the rules as we go), then we will edit it, and finally it will be published. Please indicate if the information is time sensitive when you submit it. We’ll publish the article just as fast as we can, either way, but time sensitive articles will get priority. Note: we will decline the use of any material we feel libels anyone. This is a church blog.

We look forward to your contributions. God bless you.
